February 2019 Significant Rulemaking Report
FEBRUARY 26, 2019 – Hours of service is a hot topic in the FMCSA this winter, with the agency working diligently on a proposal that would give drivers more flexibility in managing their hours. This proposal is due to be published in the first half of 2019.
Also big news, was an announcement the DOT made last week about the reevaluation of its medical certification program. This decision was made after some medical examiners fraudulently issued medical certificates to drivers who either didn’t take – or shouldn’t have passed – their DOT examination. In the wake of this discovery, six physicians have been convicted, and thousands of drivers have had to retake their medical exams.
